Project
Severely deteriorated corrugated metal culvert pipe in Destin, Florida
Client
Florida Department of Transportation
Location
Culvert pipe under US Highway 98 at
Destin Bridge, Florida
Description
Corrugated metal culvert pipe, 30″ diameter x 70′ long, was damaged and deteriorated with joint separation problems. Bridge support and roadbed was being undermined by sediment infiltrating through the joints that washed out into the bay. Pipe was located under a very busy 4-lane section of US Hwy 98 in Destin, Florida. Location of culvert pipe made it near impossible and very expensive to dig and replace.
Solution
Poly-Triplex Industries, LLC lined the culvert pipe and the adjoining sediment separator junction box with the PTLS-6800 series liner. Installation was completed in one (1) day with no digging and no traffic disruption.
Benefit
The structure was lined in one day without excavation of US Hwy 98 and with no traffic disruption. The Poly-Triplex liner has stopped all infiltration of sediment into the pipe, thereby halting road bed and bridge support erosion. Considerable cost savings were realized over other conventional methods of repair or replacement.
Upper Left: Liner is being saturated with epoxy resin system and prepared for the installation.
Upper Right: Liner is cured-in-place with air pressure and steam heat.
Upper Left: Junction box structure is bonded to the cured-in-place culvert pipe.
Upper Right: Inflation bladder is removed to reveal a completely monolithic and permanent rehabilitation.
